For over twenty years 5WD has been organizing and operating
a local food bank program. Our program runs year
round, and supports families of all backgrounds
and quadrants of life. Our program is supported
by local churches, businesses, fire halls,
family and friends.
The food bank program
supplies emergency food and supplies to our
community in
Markham
and surrounding area’s.
5WD depends on
volunteers to organize and operate the program.
Our client base is large.
Through our program we
integrate, rather than discriminate.
Clients
are not just a file, or number.
We know their families,
and their needs.
We treat each one with
confidentiality, pride, and dignity.
Often times, we are asked, “Is there a need for a food
bank”? The unfortunate answer to that question
is, “yes”.
The need arises from a
variety of reasons: an illness, job loss,
economy, long term disability, tragedy and other
situations of life that are unforeseen. Some of
us are only a paycheck our two away from needing
a food bank assistance.
At times, we often learn
from our client, there may be underlying issue’s
that is bringing them to the food bank.
We encourage them to
seek help in the direction needed.
Ultimately, we encourage
our clients to be self sustainable.
Our food bank also supplies some local
schools with breakfast programs.
One of our new initiatives in Markham is a “5WD Streets
Van” which services the homeless in and around
our area.
We provide a basic meal,
clothing or assistance in the community,
Five with D.R.I.V.E. accepts food, new clothing, and toys
for distribution. For further information,
